About Elizabeth City
Surrounded by pristine waterways, you'll find "One of America's Best Small Towns" in Elizabeth City on the Inner Banks of the Albemarle Sound region. Its six National Register Historic Districts stir memories of a time when Blackbeard sailed the waters, trains were still a way of life, and Wilbur and Orville Wright stopped for provisions on their way to the Outer Banks.
The City of Elizabeth City, known as the Harbor of Hospitality®, was once a major seaport where four-masted sailing ships carried goods along the eastern seaboard. Today, the city offers 48-hour free dockage to travelers from around the world. The "Rose Buddies," its world-renowned waterfront ambassadors, greet visiting boaters with a rose, wine, and cheese at Mariner's Wharf.
Ranked by Money Magazine as one of the Best Places to Live on the Coast, the community offers unlimited appeal to visitors of all ages and interests. From the arts and great shopping to festivals, outdoor sports, and family attractions, the City of Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County, and Camden County truly have something for everyone. So come and stay a while. You'll always feel welcome in the Harbor of Hospitality®. And who knows, you may even make a little history of your own.
