If art is your thing, Elizabeth City and surrounding communities can shape a weekend of fun. Explore the galleries and see some shows while enjoying the sights of Elizabeth City and Northeast North Carolina.

Day 1

Arts of the Albemarle Gallery
This gallery is a wonderful showplace for northeastern North Carolina's artists and crafter's to show their work. The visual arts include works in diverse styles, and the crafts include a variety of works created by artisans with a full range of skills native to this area. You will find many beautiful and unique things available at reasonable prices.

Carolina Carriages
Elegant horse and carriage service offers historic and waterfront tours in downtown Elizabeth City, NC. Standard 30 minute tour cost is $35.00 per couple, $20.00 per person. Advance reservations required 252-619-5745.  *Note: There is a $60.00 minimum for Carolina Carriages to come into Elizabeth City regardless of number of passengers, if no other tours are running. Historic guide’s fee is extra.

From time to time, Carolina Carriages runs its service in the downtown area during special events, in which case short rides are offered for $25.00 per couple; $15.00 per person; $50.00 private carriage (2-6 persons). Red Rabbit Art Gallery
This gallery offers an eclectic array of forms from sculptures and oil paintings to fabrics.

Encore Theatre Company
This venue provides opportunities for those in the Albemarle region to experience theatrical entertainment. Over the past 14 years, Encore Theatre Company has presented more than three dozen major productions ranging from musical comedy and farce to serious drama, all presented in the unique setting of The Main Street Theatre.

Performances are during the months of November, December, February, March, April, and May.

Day 2

ECSU Fine Arts Complex
This complex has a 1500-seat house. Special ECSU and community events have been hosted in the auditorium, ranging from theatrical performances and jazz and pop concerts to dance performances, in addition to ECSU ensemble performances and student and faculty recitals.

Hoffer Gallery
At the Hoffer Gallery, customers are the number one priority. In the gallery, you will find a range of items from Vera Bradley handbags to Fitz and Floyd ceramic products and more!

COA Community Auditorium
The auditorium is used for a variety of activities including student and college productions, concerts, touring shows, and local presentations. The Fine Arts Department performs a major theatrical production in the fall and a full-scale musical production in the spring.

Day 3

Clay Gardens
Create your own pottery, paint it, and take it home with you.

Open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday : 2:00pm - 5:00pm
Open Wednesday nights : 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Chowan Arts Council Gallery
The gallery features the work of professional and student artists in a series of revolving exhibits. From folk art to commissioned portraits, the gallery's diverse choice of exhibits offers something of interest for everyone.

Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday : 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Rocky Hock Playhouse
This unique professional Christian theatre is located in the Albemarle region. The Playhouse has a family theatre atmosphere and features musicals based on Bible themes, stories, and characters. Over 100,000 people have enjoyed musicals at the Playhouse since May 2000. Talented actors and vocalists from across the country perform at the theatre. Performances run March to December.
