Previously known as the Pasquotank Arts Council, the Board of Directors changed the name to Arts of the Albemarle in November of 2007. It is a wonderful showplace for northeastern North Carolina artists and crafts persons to show their work. The visual arts include works in diverse styles, and the crafts included a variety of works crafted by highly skilled artisans with a full range of skills native to this area. You will find many beautiful and unique things, while still being at reasonable prices.

Advance reservations required! *Note: There is a $75.00 minimum for Carolina Carriages to come into Elizabeth City regardless of number of passengers, if no other tours are running. United States Coast Guard Support Center in Elizabeth City, opened in 1940, is the largest Coast Guard installation in the country. Search and rescue missions are among its chief responsibilities, and it is home to the Aviation Training Center. Scenes from the motion picture "The Guardian" were filmed at the air station.

Take a personalized walking tour of Elizabeth City at its best! Journey into the past with a tour of the historic district covering over 350 years of history. The twenty block area of historic downtown features a diverse collection of antique homes, including one of the largest collections of Antebellum buildings and homes in the state. Upon returning from the tour you will view the inside of the oldest Brick home, be treated to a complementary tea and learn about antiques from the Empire to the Eastlake period. The tour is approximately two hours and is year round, by appointment only.

Come to enjoy the excitement of Dixieland Speedway’s 3/8 mile dirt oval racetrack. Located on the outskirts of Elizabeth City. Three racetracks for stockcar, go-cart and motorcycle are busy during the scheduled season that runs from April - September.

Take a guided tour of our solar system and venture out into the unknown depths of our universe. Under a star-filled dome, visitors will explore many wonders of astronomy, including, Is there life beyond Earth? Open year round to the public, the Planetarium operates Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. A limited number of evenings and shows are offered during special occasions. All shows are free and by reservation only.

Hide-N-Wood Gardens

The garden consists of eight raised beds and four elevated beds. Throughout the year, you can see demonstrations of intensified gardening techniques on small fruits and vegetables. In addition, portions of the garden have been designed as a Native Plant Habitat by NC NPS.

Will be open to the general public, daylight hours, from March 1st to November 30, 2008. With emphasis on food production by persons with a physical or mental handicap.

The park consists of two tracks. They are a beginner/peewee track and a 1.4 mile outdoor style track featuring many head high loamy berms, tabletops, doubles, whoops and single jumps. This track is geared for entry level riders to pro caliber racers. The tracks consist of a loamy sandy topsoil and are fully irrigated with over 130 sprinkler heads.

Taking advantage of Elizabeth City’s waterfront vista, the new Museum of the Albemarle contains exhibits and facilities enabling visitors to experience the general history of 13 counties in northeastern North Carolina.
A chronological overview of the region is presented in the 7,000-square-foot main gallery with artifacts and graphics illustrating the geography and ecology of the area in addition to perspectives on its cultural development over the past 10,000 years.

The Pines is a par 72 championship layout with five sets of tees. Golfers can play from 5,101 yards to 7,017 yards with "USGA spec." greens using a 50/50 blend of A1/A4 Bent grass which more than qualifies for a true Championship Course. Fairways that consist of 419 Bermuda which is very heat tolerant and thrives on the steamy summer days of Northeastern North Carolina. Golf Digest Panelist said "every hole is a unique challenge, reminiscent of Pinehurst number 2" with nine of the greens elevated. All bunkers are lined to prevent erosion and are strategically located to more than challenge the golfer. State of the art remote and radio controlled irrigation throughout to include "fertigation" which allows for fertilizing while irrigating the course. All new 8 foot concrete cart paths were added throughout the property. Underground reservoirs were added to allow play up to 5.2 inches of rainfall during a 24 hour period. A complete training facility to include driving range, chipping area with bunkers and putting green were added.

Port Discover is a new hands-on science center for kids and their families to explore and interact with the science around them. It’s a community-based, non-profit organization, established to enhance the public’s understanding and enjoyment of science through engaging programs, activities, and exhibits. Special attention is given to what’s unique about North Carolina’s Albemarle. Program themes include Environmental and Marine Sciences, Aviation Science, Biology, Physical Sciences, Health & Wellness, Agricultural Sciences, and Planetary Sciences. Lighter-than-air ships have had a major impact on Elizabeth City’s history and economy. It is not uncommon to see Monster.com, Sanyo, Fuji Film, and other blimps flying high above the city as they make their way to the US Naval Blimp Hangar. Visitors wishing to tour the facility will get the opportunity to learn about the Navy’s lighter-than-air history in Elizabeth City as well as view the company’s plant. Tours are held on Wednesday at 3:00 pm and run 30-45 minutes. All tours need to be arranged ahead of time.
